About English Rural

English Rural is a specialist non-profit rural housing association, established in 1991. We only build and manage homes in village locations, principally across the south of England. All the homes we build are community-led and designed to benefit local people. We are also one of the leading national advocates on affordable rural housing issues, with HRH The Princess Royal as our Patron.

Generally speaking, we develop our homes on ‘rural exception sites’. This enables us to ensure they are affordable and secured for local people – forever. Our residents and the local community are at the heart of what we do and we work at the invitation of the Parish Council.

Affordable doesn’t mean poor quality. Our homes are designed and built to high standards, usually using local design features and ensuring that their environmental impact is minimal. We build beautiful homes that villages can be proud of and our homes consistently win awards for design and construction.

What Is Proposed?

We are proposing to design, build and manage a single development of affordable homes, to serve those households living or working within the Parish. This project is a continuation of successful earlier examples, built in the village in 2006 and 2014 at Westward Ho.

With input from local landowners, Hart District Council , the Rural Housing Enabler and English Rural, a shortlist of 3 sites has emerged, upon which we are seeking the views of the local community.

Subject to further assessment of the selected site and the design evolution, a mix of homes is required to help to meet current and future housings needs from the community. This could include;

2 x One Bedroom Maisonettes.

4 x Two Bedroom Houses

3 x Three Bedroom Houses

All of these homes will be for affordable rent.

Visit the 'Visuals' page to view sketch ideas of what the site layouts might look like.

Proposed Locations

The shortlisted sites are viewable on the adjacent map. Each site is outlined in yellow and marked with a blue map pin. Click on the top right symbol on the map to enlarge the map. Zoom in and out using your mouse or the +/- buttons. Hold a mouse button and drag the cursor to explore the area.
